So much has changed.
The moon rose through tufts of grey clouds, letting its silver beams lay across the land. Christian stood upon one of the turret walls of the castle to watch it. His green robes swept across the stone as he paced back and forth, stretching the muscles in his legs. They had grown stiff, more often than not, during his weekly stay here at the castle.
Sitting and studying like grandfather did does that to you.
He wondered now what Moon would do if he was here, watching a relative who had distanced himself as far as possible from the family, picking up his grandfather’s habits. Would he be mocked? Or would Moon make that small smile, and show a glimmer of understanding in his eyes.
It did not matter anymore. Moon was gone. The ever powerful, the ever resourceful, the forgotten father of this family had been snatched by death, and now the chaos would truly begin. Sure, whatever had been left of the family with his presence here was depressing enough. Yet, now? Without that stone cold being, the man behind the door surrounded by books?
It was time to leave.
Christian’s last moments in the castle would not be filled with goodbyes. The last sounds from him in the hall would not be his last words to family. It would be the hollow footsteps against the stone, as his feet carried him out the door. Away from the world he’d finally decided not to live.#nosmileys
