Selfish of her to want to keep Noa conscious for the time, to keep him from his rest. To talk and play….but the common sense and knowing what had to be done only had her lay with him for the shortest of times. He was still weak and he had needed to sleep. It was only then she wrestled with herself…wanting to stay but needing to go. Lillith would know she was back, and with company too…Lillith would also want an explanation and updating on everything. The softest of sighs, the most tender of kisses placed upon Noa’s cheek she did just as she was supposed to.
Crawling backward off the bed he slept on, glancing to the rather large emerald upon the small night-table. She had things to do with that. It was taken without thought, this time it was not theft but she would, if she had to go through it all again.
There was of course a glance back to the sleeping Fae, a very real grin, even a bounce on her toes before she slipped so quietly way. First things first…
A long time ago she had been given a rather sickly looking tree. Jared had brought it to her as a gift, and she had coaxed life to its dry and withered stems. The sapling had even been well enough to leave the bounds of its pot and she had planted it so carefully close to her little cabin. She’d known all along what this tree was and if she hadn’t known any better she’d have put it all down to some sort of strange fore-sight. How Jared had managed to find it she’d never know, unless she asked and that…wasn’t about to happen.
Glancing over her shoulder, then left and then right to make sure se was not watched. The small tree was approached and she spoke to it. Yes Aeron was speaking to the tree.
“Help me now Meren and you shall become what you were always meant to be.” Her voice was nothing but whispered breath that carried on the breeze. She only hoped the young Dryad would heed her call, her plea and know that she needed now just as she had when she had been so sickly.
All Aeron could do was wait for the time being. Patience was always a good thing. Especially when dealing with Meren. The heart of Nature pulsed with life in her small grasp, she hid nothing…for this was meant to be.
It seemed to take forever before something actually happened. The shifting light that filtered through the canopy above could have caused this illusion but Aeron knew better. The small sapling moved of its own accord. Meren had heard her and deemed it right to appear. Slowly a small, thin willowy figure would emerge from the tree itself though she never left it entirely.
“Aeron” a breath of voice came with a smile. “I’m glad you’re home”
It was just as well none knew of this, even better that Noa was sleeping. Aeron remained calm and approachable.
“Meren I need you to help me” she took slow steps toward Meren and offered the Heart with outstretched hands to be seen, to be known and to be felt. The Dryad remained and looked inquisitive. Looking from the Heart to Aeron with a rather bemused expression on her pale face.
“The Heart?” a whispered question to which Aeron responded with nothing more than a nod. This was more than Meren could have hoped for. It held the power she’d need to be well enough to grow and as Aeron had said…become what she was meant to be. “If they find it, it will cost you dearly” Meren warned. Taking a step back toward the safety of the life she was bound to.
“I know” whispered Aeron. Always she spoke softly when dealing with Meren. “This is why I need your help. I need the cabin and the wood veiled and the Heart to be hidden from them all. I know you need it too Meren. Will you help me?” her heart was in her hands…in more than a literal sense.
Here was a long time taken for pause and thoughts, before Meren moved forward toward Aeron…this time she had left her tree but there was no concern, not now. She’d be well and she could grow strong and for Aeron…she would do what had been asked. After all without the Sprite, she’d have died a long time ago.
Long, spindly fingers reached to take the Heart from Aeron’s grasp and the Fae could only feel relief as Meren whispered “It will be done”
There was more than mutual understandings exchanged as Aeron let Meren take the Heart. Soon enough, given a little time. Aeron’s little patch within the wood, by the lake would become something of a ‘Homeland’ in itself. A gateway to the Dreaming, veiled to mortal eyes and those without the gift of Fae sight.
The miracle of seeing what she saw already only had her gasp and tears fill her eyes. Just seeing Meren become more whole was more than she had ever thought possible. The Dryad before her bloomed…her pale flesh took on a green shimmering hue, her hair became a cascade of fine lush leaves and her body took on a life of its own…a body to die for. Subtle curves held undefined grace, the fine details of the leaves upon her flesh only hiding away what men would seek to take for their own. Though there were no words. A greater bond and respect shared between the two. There was only a single nod of acknowledgement for what they had done for each other.
But it was over, there was nothing more to be said. The sapling that had looked so frail before now took on a healthy glow. Branches filled out, leaves spouted green and it had seemed to gain more height.
So emotionally happy Aeron watched as Meren withdrew back into the tree. It was far more than she could have dreamed of. “Thank you!” whispered away before she turned away. Wiping the tears from her cheeks, biting back the laughter she wished she could share. Only she’d never see what Meren would do to the place now she had the power. Her eyes pierced the veil and the dreaming. Her cabin would always look like home to her.
To the rest…what they’d see would be in their own minds eye. For all intent and purpose. Aeron did not live there any more but those that knew better. Knew well enough.
The Lumination in the distance was her next port of call, Lillith had to see her and she had to gather silk sheets. She could have danced as she tripped lightly back through her wood and past the cabin toward the Lumination.
